The biggest reason why a weight loss diet fails is because it involves doing too many new things at once, and these things usually are not even close to sustainable in the long term.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are the biggest mistakes I see:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Focusing solely on the weight loss. Improving your health is so much more than the number on the scale. Focus on setting smaller mini goals instead!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ Instead of jumping right to the biggest calorie deficit you can manage, try cutting your calories by the smallest possible amount that still allows for weight loss. The goal here is to eat as much as you can while in a moderate deficit, NOT eating as little as you can.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ So many "diets" out there give you lists of foods you can & can't eat. But doesn't that just make you want them more? The longer you restrict them, the more chance you get frustrated & end up overeating them. Instead find balance in your diet! Include mainly whole, nutrient-dense foods & still learn to enjoy your favorites!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣ You're expecting results to happen overnight... I felt like this for like… SO many years. The truth? Time is your friend. If you don’t believe this, think about it. Remember how fast you lost weight on that low carb diet only to gain it right back when you stopped? Slow and steady will allow you to lose the weight in a sustainable way, while enjoying the foods you like and not completely altering your lifestyle.

5️⃣ You haven't worked on the things that will really help you succeed with fat loss FIRST! This will vary from person to person, but if you haven't worked on mindful eating skills, your relationship with food and body image issues it is going to be much harder mentally to succeed in fat loss AND keep it off!

While it's not quite fall yet September starts a few of my favorite months. Apple picking, pumpkin picking (& pumpkin everything), my birthday month and much better walking weather! Walks give me a moment to move my body, breathe in some fresh air, and collect my thoughts.

Wherever you are in your journey, I hope you know that what you do should be unique. Yes … even if you think social media is telling you otherwise.

Why?

Because there is only one like you so your goals and the way you achieve them should be unique to you.

No matter what you do — the experience should always be one of a kind.

Everyone’s goals are different. Even if two people have the same goal, the road they take to achieve them are different.

So if you're scared or discouraged that everyone has already “done it” one way and it's what’s holding you back, this is the sign you’ve been looking for to go for it anyway - in YOUR OWN way!

Sometimes you want to quit… other times you just need better boundaries & a plan.

5 pieces of advice to help you make sure your week is great & you get closer to results

➡️ Say no!
Sometimes it’s not about pleasing others & more about doing what you need to do to better yourself.

👋 Set a weekly intention.

When Sunday night rolls around it's pretty normal to start to feel that stress creeping in from all that you need to get done this week. Instead of allowing that stress to take over, set an intention of how you want the week to go & then write down a few ways you can make it happen!

👩‍🍳 Plan (& prep) Some of Your Meals Ahead of Time

This will look different for everyone! Depending on your schedule you may want to just bulk cook some protein to have on hand for the week, wash & chop all your veggies so they're easy to grab & eat or even go as far as to prep full meals! No matter which you choose, do something that will create less stress for you throughout the week.

🧘‍♀️ Schedule in some self-care.

Maybe that’s getting coffee with a friend, or taking an afternoon off, or just going on a longer-than-usual walk with your dogs — whatever it is, self-care is necessary - NOT a luxury.

❤️ Recognize the good. Remember the things that you did - not the things you didn't get done. Remind yourself that your opinion doesn’t just matter, it’s the priority.

As someone who has struggled with all of the above in the past, I feel super confident these tips will help.
